Innovations in Urban Housing: Roundtable Discussion

Shri R.K. Gautam, DDG, Housing for All, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs chaired a roundtable discussion on ‘Innovations in Urban Housing’ at the 12th Regional 3R & Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific, held between 3rd to 5th March 2025 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The platform brought together officials from various States, housing experts to deliberate and exchange ideas on best practices for affordable housing, incentivizing private investment in the affordable housing sector and innovative models for affordable rental housing. The participants shared their views on the best practices which can provide fillip to affordable housing and rental housing ecosystem under PMAY-U 2.0.

The 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific was organized from 3rd to 5thMarch 2025 at Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur. The theme of the Forum is “Realizing Circular Societies Towards Achieving SDGs and Carbon Neutrality in Asia-Pacific". The 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific witnessed high-level participation, with the Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal inaugurating the event alongside ministers from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. The forum featured 120 speakers contributing to 29 plenary sessions, 10 thematic sessions, 6 country breakout sessions, and 7 side events. The forum also hosted plenary sessions, country breakout sessions, and side events, including discussions on India’s pathways to a circular economy, highlighting efforts in waste management and sustainability.

On the second day of the Forum, a Roundtable Discussion on ‘Innovations in Urban Housing’ was organised. The roundtable was chaired by Shri R.K. Gautam, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. The roundtable brought together senior officials from various States including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Nagaland along with housing experts to deliberate and exchange ideas on best practices of affordable housing, incentivizing private investment in the affordable housing sector and innovative models of rental housing under PMAY-Urban. The participants shared their views on the strategies adopted in their region which can provide fillip to affordable housing and rental housing ecosystem in the country.
