Meeting of Urban Development Ministers on 17 th July 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi

Inaugural Session

A meeting of Urban Development Ministers was held in New Delhi on 17 th July 2025, in the esteemed presence of Shri Manohar Lal, Hon'ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, Hon'ble MoS for Housing and Urban Affairs. The meeting was attended by Urban Development Ministers from various States/UTs, Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, MoHUA, Principal Secretaries/Urban Development Secretaries from States/UTs and senior officials from the Ministry.

The inaugural address on “Vision for New Urban India – Challenges and Pathways” was delivered by the Hon’ble MoS, followed by sharing of the interventions by the State Ministers on the Best Practices. With respect to PMAY-U, Smt Pratima Bagri, Hon’ble Minister of State, Urban Development and Housing Department, Madhya Pradesh, shared the Best Practice adopted by the State in promoting inclusiveness and women Empowerment in implementation of the scheme.

The event highlighted key initiatives undertaken by the different States/UTs on urban development with respect to swachhata, affordable housing, urban transport system, infrastructure, water security, among others for a holistic approach to urban governance and sustainable development.

Roundtable on 'Housing and Land related Matters'

Shri Kuldip Narayan, JS&MD, 'Housing for All’ Mission moderated a roundtable discussion on 'Housing and Land related Matters' with Shri Ravi Arora, JS, MoHUA in the presence of Secretaries, Mission Directors from different States and sector experts. A wide range of topics such as future roadmap for enhancing supply of affordable housing in the country, incentives for promotion of private participation, developing rental housing ecosystem, innovative financing models for affordable housing, exploring effective land aggregation strategies was broadly discussed, along with their expected outcomes like formulation of futuristic housing policy and compilation of replicable best practices and innovations.

State-wise Reporting and Discussion on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban

A State-wise discussion on PMAY-U and other Schemes of MoHUA was chaired by Shri Manohar Lal, Hon'ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs with Urban Development Ministers from different States/UTs. During the session, Hon'ble Minister spoke about working on achieving targets of completion of pucca houses, prioritising group housing projects (Affordable Housing in Partnership vertical of PMAY-U) and Affordable Rental Housing for ease of living for industrial workers, investment by private sector for promoting affordable housing and preparation of affordable housing policy by States. Hon'ble Minister also sought suggestions from the different Ministers, stakeholders on better and rapid implementation of PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0.
